What's the beef?

By Carol Harblin, HHC

Why do Americans yearn for BEEF? What's the beef? It is a major cause for high cholesterol, high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis, diabetes, and obesity.

What if you did a Meat-free week challenge? Chicken, turkey, fish is good to eat but why not try to go meatless for one week.
There are lots of things you could eat that does not come from an animal.
There are lots of spices to cook with too.
Try a blend of different spices and even spices that you would not normally use. Why not sprinkle coriander or cardamom? Why not a little turmeric?
Mustard seed is a nice spice to add to food too.

Your tongue deserves to taste different tastes. That is what our taste buds do and why we have tongues.
After the week-long meatless challenge, go back to eating some meat occasionally.

Americans eat entirely too much meat. It's nice to break free from that particular food group.

Did you know you can get protein from beans too? You need not get protein from just meat. Did you know that beef contains nitrates and can strain your kidneys and hurt them over time?

Try more vegetables....try a vegetable you have never eaten before. Try eating more fruits too....
try eating foods with more spices.

Open yourself up to different food choices and experiences. It doesn't have to be about beef and cheese.
